A 16-year-old boy from Ananiev, Odesa region, stabbed his mother and younger sister to death after they were denied pocket money, for which he faces up to 15 years in prison.

It was found out that a conflict arose between the young man and his mother because she refused to give him pocket money. Enraged, the boy stabbed his mother several times in the neck with a kitchen knife and threw the weapon into the oven. He did the same to his sister, who was in the next room and unwittingly witnessed the crime. The perpetrator used a second knife to kill the girl.

According to the investigation, after the crime, the young man went for a walk in the streets of the city, where he was detained by law enforcement officers. The murder of his mother and sister was reported to law enforcement by his 11-year-old brother. The boy returned home and found two corpses.
The bodies of the mother and daughter were sent for forensic examination. Preliminarily, both victims died at the scene from acute blood loss and stab wounds.
The police seized the murder weapon, biological materials and other material evidence relevant to the case from the scene. Criminalists of the Investigation Department of the Odesa Region Main Directorate of the National Police, using a mobile DNA laboratory, promptly examined the biological traces seized during the initial investigative actions and biological samples of the victims and the suspect. The results of the study confirmed the boy's involvement in the crime.
The man has now been served a notice of suspicion of murder, including that of a young child. This crime is classified under paragraphs 1 and 2 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The young man was taken into custody for 60 days as a measure of restraint.
