In Kyiv Region, a Village Council Official Is Suspected of Extorting Half of the 'eVidnovlennia' Compensation

An official in the Kyiv region demanded 260,000 hryvnias for the disbursement of 'eVidnovlennia' payments. The suspect and his accomplice were detained and taken into custody.

In the Kyiv region, a village council official and his accomplice were exposed for allegedly demanding 50% of the compensation from the "e-Recovery" (yeVidnovlennia) program from the owner of a home damaged by Russian aggression. They valued the amount of the "reward" at 260,000 UAH, promising assistance in securing the payment. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, according to UNN.
Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, a scheme to extort money from a victim whose housing was damaged as a result of Russian aggression has been exposed and shut down
According to the investigation, an official from one of the village councils in the Kyiv region demanded 50% of the state compensation received under the "e-Recovery" program from a man. The amount in question was 260,000 UAH. This was the price he set for his "assistance" in ensuring the unhindered receipt of the payment for the damaged housing.
To conceal the origin of the funds, the official involved an acquaintance who is an entrepreneur. The victim was supposed to transfer the money to the entrepreneur's account, labeling the payment as a fee for alleged repair work.
After the funds were transferred, the official and his accomplice were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The official has been notified of suspicion of receiving an improper benefit combined with extortion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The entrepreneur is charged with aiding and abetting this crime.
At the request of the prosecutor, both suspects have been remanded in custody as a preventive measure, with the alternative of posting bail.
