Hungarian parties set date for election of Péter Magyar as prime minister

The Hungarian parliament discussed preparations for the inaugural session. The election of the prime minister and the swearing-in of deputies are scheduled for May 9.

Hungarian political parties have agreed on when Péter Magyar can become prime minister. This took place on Friday, April 17, in the Hungarian National Assembly – the event was attended by representatives of the "Tisza" party (Respect and Freedom Party - ed.), "Fidesz - Hungarian Civic Alliance", Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP - ed.) and "Mi Hazánk Mozgalom" (Our Homeland Movement - ed.), reports UNN with reference to hvg.hu.

At the event, the "Tisza" faction was represented, in addition to party leader Péter Magyar, by faction leader in the capital Andrea Bujdosó, lawyer Márton Mellettey-Barna, and cabinet head György-László Velkei. The "Fidesz" party delegated Minister Gergely Gulyás and György Balla, the "KDNP" party - State Secretary Bence Rétvári, János Latorcai, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, and the "Mi Hazánk" party - László Toroczkai, Dóra Dúró, and Előd Novák.
During the meeting, the following issues were discussed:
- preparation for the confirmation of mandates, the order of
signing the oath;
- preparation for the inaugural meeting;
- determining the agenda;
- preparation for the election of officials;
- creation of the National Assembly's committee system;
- issues related to foreign policy and
diplomatic bodies.
The inaugural sessions of parliament could take place on May 9, and the prime minister will be elected on the same day. In addition, a separate ministry of social affairs is planned to be established.

Viktor Orbán stated that his Fidesz party needs a "complete renewal" after its defeat in the parliamentary elections that ended his 16-year rule.
