The French Parliament has passed a special law for the functioning of the state without a budget for 2025. The document will allow to continue financing on the principles of the 2024 budget until a new budget is adopted.

On Monday, the French National Assembly agreed on a special bill that will allow the government to function until a full budget for 2025 is adopted. This was reported by Le Figaro, according to UNN.

Details

The document was submitted to the Parliament as a matter of urgency to avoid a “shutdown”, similar to the United States, when executive authorities would not be able to exercise their powers as of January 1 because they would not have the funding to do so.

France will enter the new year with the same principle of calculating taxes and expenditures as was set out in the 2024 budget - until the political crisis is overcome and the parliament adopts a new budget.

In the lower house, 481 deputies supported the bill, 63 abstained, and no votes were cast against it. By Wednesday, the Senate is to give its approval to the temporary measures.

Recall

The French President appointed the leader of the Democratic Movement Francois Bayrou as the country's new Prime Minister. The appointment follows the resignation of Michel Barnier after his defeat in the parliament.

This appointment is an important step in the formation of a new government to replace the cabinet headed by Michel Barnier. Barnier resigned after the government was defeated by a vote of far-right and left-wing MPs in parliament. This event was another test for the country, which is facing its second political crisis in the last six months.
