A powerful storm hit South Texas. Local authorities reported that at least three people died as a result of storms and floods, and more than 200 were rescued. Hundreds of houses were flooded, drivers abandoned cars on the roads, and the local airport stopped working. This is reported by The Texas Tribune, reports UNN.

According to The Texas Tribune, the city of Harlingen received a record amount of precipitation this week - 21.5 inches, which broke the absolute record for the total amount of precipitation in two days, set in 1912.

It is noted that more than 100 water rescue operations were carried out in the city of Alamo. 30–40 rescues have been confirmed in Weslaco. In general, the heavy rains caused large-scale power outages - more than 3,400 consumers were left without electricity.
Due to bad weather, the airport in Harlingen was closed and all flights were cancelled. Temporary shelters have been opened in several cities, and schools and universities have cancelled classes.
Cameron County has appealed to the governor to declare a state of emergency. Meanwhile, meteorologists warn that even after the rainfall decreases, the situation remains critical - new rains may cause flooding again.
