Director of Teleradio-Moldova resigned over national jury scores at Eurovision 2026
Kyiv • UNN
Vlad Țurcanu submitted his resignation due to the low scores given by the Moldovan jury to Ukraine and Romania at Eurovision. He emphasized the importance of supporting neighboring states.

The Director General of Teleradio-Moldova (TRM), Vlad Turcanu, announced his resignation two days after the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. This was reported by moldova1.md, according to UNN.
Details
It is noted that the reason was the results of the national jury's voting at the contest. According to Turcanu, the jury members, who awarded three points to the representative of Romania at Eurovision and gave zero points to the representative of Ukraine, failed to take into account the "sensitive relations that exist between the Republic of Moldova and our neighbors."
"Even though we distanced ourselves from the jury's decisions at the Eurovision final, the vote cast is our responsibility and, above all, mine, as the head of the institution. I avoided giving instructions to the jury, to the jury members, and what happened is an extraordinary thing. From our point of view, the jury did not take into account the sensitive aspects that exist between the Republic of Moldova and our neighbors, Romania and Ukraine,"
He emphasized that with his decision he wants to send a "clear signal, namely, that the fraternal relations the Republic of Moldova has with Romania, as well as our gratitude and respect for Ukraine for its daily sacrifice, remain unchanged."
"Our attitude towards Ukraine is not zero, and our feeling for Romania can only be a feeling of love,"
He added that he wants the company's activities not to be affected by the "sometimes turbulent, though justified" public reactions.
Background
Moldova's national jury at Eurovision 2026 awarded three points to the Romanian performer, which caused dissatisfaction among internet users, as well as zero points to the Ukrainian participant.
The scores were criticized on social media, and TRM, the national organizer of the Eurovision contest, emphasized in a press release published on May 17 that "the jury that awarded the scores at Eurovision does not represent the position of the institution."
Reminder
Ukraine received the greatest support from viewers at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 from Poland, Georgia, and the Czech Republic. These countries gave the Ukrainian representative the maximum 12 points. High scores also came from audiences in Portugal and Moldova, who awarded 10 points each.
