Bridge over the Lybid in Kyiv: new traffic restrictions and emergency measures
Kyiv • UNN
On the bridge over the Lybid on Air Force Avenue, traffic has been limited to 14 tons and speeds up to 30 km/h. The movement of trucks and trolleybuses with a particularly large capacity is prohibited.
Priority emergency measures have been taken to ensure the continued operation of the bridge across the Lybid River on Air Force Avenue in Kyiv, where traffic restrictions have been imposed, prior to the reconstruction of the structure. Specialists are constantly monitoring the operational condition of the bridge's load-bearing structures. The Department of Transport Infrastructure of the executive body of the Kyiv City Council (KCSA) informed the UNN journalist in response to a request.
According to the bridge's balance sheet holder, Kyivavtoshlyakhmist, taking into account the results of a special inspection of the artificial structure and in accordance with the recommendations on emergency measures on the section of the bridge over the Lybid River on Vozdukhnya Avenue, it was recommended to limit the carrying capacity of the structure to 14 tons for vehicles, as well as to prohibit the movement of trucks and trolleybuses of extra large capacity and to limit the speed of traffic on the structure to 30 km/h.
It is reported that this decision should not affect the quality of passenger service, since, according to Kyivpastrans, trolleybuses and large-capacity buses (single, not articulated) were used in the vast majority of routes that pass through the artificial structure.
It is also noted that the specialists of Kyivpastrans will periodically monitor the state of transportation on passenger routes that run across the bridge over the Lybid River on Vozdukhnya Avenue and, if necessary, will take appropriate measures to ensure full transportation.
"In addition, we note that to ensure the continued operation of the bridge over the Lybid River on Air Force Avenue, priority emergency measures have been taken to reconstruct the structure: the cantilevered parts of the bridge have been unloaded and the pedestrian passage has been partially restricted in width. Specialists of Kyivavtoshlyakhmist are constantly monitoring the operational condition of the load-bearing structures of the bridge over the Lybid River on Air Force Avenue," the company said in response to the request.
Context
On October 21, the KPT Administration reported that due to the accident rate of the Povitroflotskyi overpass, an order was issued starting at 17.10 to ban the use of extra-large capacity trolleybuses (the so-called "accordions") on routes 8, 17, 19, 33, 35.
The restriction is imposed only on the section of the overpass directly above the high-speed tram line, so no restrictions are imposed on trolleybus routes 4, 5, 7, or other routes that turn around on the Povitroflotskyi overpass on the section above Beresteyskyi Avenue.
