BMW has unveiled its first-ever all-wheel-drive M2 for the 2027 model year—the model retains 473 hp, while all-wheel drive makes it faster despite the weight increase, and a new Borusan Turkish Blue paint option has become available, Autoblog reports, according to UNN.

"Rumors about this have been circulating since the launch of the G87, information about its existence accidentally leaked online, and here it is: the first-ever all-wheel-drive BMW M2," the publication states.

The M2 was BMW M's bestseller last year, and for the 2027 model year, BMW can finally turn its compact sports car into an all-season companion that gives the driver confidence on snow and ice by engaging the front axle when the rear wheels begin to slip. The M xDrive system with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch works the same way as in the larger M3 and M4 Competition, allowing the car to transfer more torque to the rear axle in 4WD Sport mode and all torque to the rear axle in 2WD mode. If you prefer to do without the extra weight and stick with the pure rear-wheel-drive M2, such a version is also available, the publication writes.

In the BMW M3 and M4, choosing all-wheel drive means having the Competition badge, and power increases from 473 hp in the base models and 503 hp in the rear-wheel-drive Competition variants to 523 hp. But this is the BMW M2 with M xDrive, without the Competition badge, so the power remains at 473 hp, "but you wouldn't believe it after a drag race." Since the all-wheel-drive version of the M2 is offered only with an eight-speed automatic transmission rather than a six-speed manual, torque is reportedly not reduced to 406 lb-ft (approx. 550 Nm), remaining at 443 lb-ft (approx. 600 Nm). The addition of all-wheel drive increased the weight of the automatic M2 by only about 55 kg, but at the same time made the car slightly faster in a straight line. Without a rollout from a standstill, the M2 with M xDrive accelerates from 0 to nearly 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, which is three-tenths of a second faster than the rear-wheel-drive M2, and with a rollout, the time drops to 3.3 seconds, or a tenth of a second faster than the top-tier M3 Competition xDrive. Acceleration from 0 to 200 km/h now takes 12.8 seconds without rollout, 12.5 seconds with it, and 80 to 120 km/h takes 3.7 seconds.

BMW plans to equip the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder twin-turbo engine with M Ignite pre-ignition technology. The M2 is expected to receive this technology when the 2027 model goes into production at the plant in Mexico in August, but it will not increase power, only improve the efficiency of the combustion process, the publication writes.

For the 2027 model year, BMW will offer five metallic and three solid color options, as well as six from the BMW Individual line. One of them is the new Borusan Turkish Blue for the M2, a more candy-like option compared to the sky-blue Zandvoort Blue that the M2 was launched with. BMW has not specified what other shades will be offered, but given that the 2026 M2 has access to the same number of solid and metallic options, Borusan Turkish Blue appears to be an addition rather than a replacement, so Portimao Blue Metallic will likely remain available, the publication indicates.

BMW also hasn't announced the price for the 2027 M2, but xDrive adds about five thousand dollars to the price of the M3 Competition, so it is reported that the M2 with M xDrive can be expected to start at $70,000. BMW will likely release pricing in the coming weeks or later next month.
