The earthquake occurred on March 28, around 1:30 p.m. (Thai time). The alarm went off in the houses, and the buildings shook. The underground tremors were so strong that water splashed out of the pools located on the roofs of the buildings.
Residents of central Bangkok, which is home to more than 17 million people, were evacuated. They remained on the streets for several minutes after the earthquake.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located in central Myanmar, approximately 50 kilometers east of the city of Monywa. . According to preliminary reports, the US Geological Survey and the German Research Centre for Geosciences GFZ stated that the midday shock had a depth of 10 kilometers.
No casualties have been reported.
