Details

According to the organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF), 54 journalists were killed while doing their job in 2024. One third of them were killed in Gaza, in the area of the IDF and Hamas fighting.

“Palestine is the most dangerous country for journalists, with more journalists killed in the last five years than in any other country,” RSF notes in its annual report, which collects data for the period up to December 1.

Israel denies the deliberate killing of media representatives, but admits that some of them may have been killed in air strikes.

In addition to murdered journalists, RSF also registers those who are imprisoned. On December 1, 550 members of the press were trapped on the planet (compared to 513 last year).

The number of prisoners increased in Russia, as well as in China (124, including 11 in Hong Kong), Myanmar (61) and Israel (41).

Ninety-five journalists went missing, including four new cases in 2024.
