The United States has extradited to Russia Alexei Smirnov, who is accused of kidnapping his young daughter in 2019 and ill-treating her for six months. In August 2019, Aleksey Smirnov, who lived in the Khabarovsk region, took his daughter to an art class but did not return. Later it turned out that he had taken her to South Korea without warning the child's mother, his ex-wife Olesya Smirnova. From there, he came to the United States. In February 2020, with the assistance of the Khabarovsk region authorities, the child was returned to Russia. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during these six months, Alexei Smirnov systematically beat, insulted and humiliated his daughter.
