In the images posted on X by supporter Michael Solakiewicz, Trump's hair looked noticeably shorter and/or "tighter" than usual. Newsweek reached out to Trump's transition team for comment Wednesday via email outside of normal business hours.
Trump's famous lion's mane hairstyle has been a key element of his public persona and brand for decades, inspiring both imitation and ridicule.
Any change in this "rule," the publication notes, would be a serious step on the part of the US president-elect, although it is unclear whether this was intentional or whether he simply abandoned his standard hair care routine for a short period.
On Tuesday night, Trump supporter Solakiewicz shared a 21-second video of the president-elect briefly chatting with fans at his West Palm Beach golf club.
Dressed in a golf uniform, including Trump's signature polo shirt, and holding a red Make America Great Again cap, the US president-elect entered the room to applause from his audience. He stopped briefly to ask: "Is everybody having a good time?", eliciting cheers, then jokingly said: "All Republicans?" earning more applause.
It is noteworthy that Trump's hair in the video looks much smoother and/or shorter than usual, which caused heated discussions among X users.
In response to Solakiewicz's post on X, Michael Buscemi, another user of the platform, wrote: "New haircut!"
Another user X wrote: "What did they do to his hair?" and a third said: "Do we have a mallet [a type of haircut - ed
A fourth user, X, suggested that the change in appearance might have been caused by Trump's hat, commenting, "Perfect hat hairstyle.
Trump has long defended his hair, tweeting in 2013: "As everyone knows, but haters and losers refuse to admit, I don't wear a wig. My hair may not be perfect, but it's mine.
It remains to be seen whether Trump will keep this new hairstyle or return to his iconic image. Given the importance of image in politics, any change would be a big step, the publication notes.
