A member of the Brovary City Council opposes the renaming of Brovary to Brovari arguing that the principles of renaming should be consistent and not be changed manually, and that there are more pressing priorities during the war.

When renaming streets, settlements, etc., the same approaches should be applied, which cannot be changed manually to suit someone's whims. This opinion on the initiative of some MPs to rename Brovary to Brovary was expressed by Brovary City Council deputy Yuriy Cherednyk in a commentary to UNN.

The MP noted that today there are many other priority issues that affect the lives of both Brovary residents and Ukrainians in general. Therefore, he believes that it is not appropriate to raise the issue of renaming Brovary to Brovary at this time.

At the same time, he said, the same approaches and principles should be followed when renaming.

If we are talking about renaming cities, streets, and regions, we have to follow certain rules in this regard. And in my opinion, these rules should be the same. And if earlier renaming of the whole of Ukraine was carried out in accordance with the Law on Decommunization, then we will continue to follow these rules. Does Brovary fall under this law then? This is a completely different approach. That is, first we have the law, and then we have our own whims and desires. As far as I understand it, there is talk of renaming Brovari, because our city was supposedly once called that. But cities used to be called by Soviet names, too. So what? Should we go back to those days? The rules for renaming should be the same. If we are working under the law on decommunization, then this is the way to do it. And not so that first there is one law, and then we adjust it manually, and then we approach each settlement differently,

- said Yuriy Cherednyk.

The MP believes that with such approaches, the situation can be brought to the point of absurdity.

If we're talking about our ATC, which also includes the village of Trebukhiv, I read that Trebukhiv used to be called something else. So let's turn to the institutions that trace the historical names of all cities and towns and rename the whole of Ukraine to the pre-Soviet years. This is definitely not the way to go,

- Cherednyk added.

According to him, members of the Brovary City Council will defend the current name of the city. This position is supported by the majority of Brovary residents who are against renaming.

Lidiya Senko, a member of the Brovary City Council, believes that it is not appropriate to raise the issue of renaming cities now, and that all efforts should be directed to supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And only after the victory will we deal with the names of the settlements.

Her colleague, MP Ihor Kravtsov, notes that the renaming will create additional difficulties for the heads of some municipal institutions and non-profit enterprises. Some medical workers may even be left without salaries.

Famous Brovary residents are categorically against the renaming: multiple European and world swimming champion Oleh Lisohor, future participant of the Olympic Games in Paris, wrestler Alina Grushyna (Akobia), former world champion professional boxer Yuriy Nuzhnenko and many others.

Context

A group of MPs led by Roman Lozynsky of the Voice faction has registered a resolution in the Verkhovna Rada to rename Brovary to Brovary. Local residents, with whom UNN spoke , do not support this idea. In particular, they do not understand where the name "Brovary" came from, which, moreover, does not sound very nice.

Brovary residents also say that MPs simply have nothing to do. And such controversial decisions are definitely not the right time.
