The Kremlin again claims the "end of the war is approaching" following Zelenskyy's remarks on new attacks

Peskov claimed the end of the war is nearing due to engagement with the US and Ukraine. Zelenskyy warned that Russia is preparing for new attacks instead of peace.

The Kremlin reiterated Vladimir Putin's statement that the war against Ukraine is allegedly "nearing its end." At the same time, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Moscow shows no intention of ceasing hostilities and is preparing new attacks. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.
The Kremlin claimed the "end of the war is approaching"
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that certain "trilateral work" involving Russia, Ukraine, and the US has allegedly already been conducted as part of the search for a peaceful settlement.
"This accumulated base within the peace process allows us to say that the end is indeed approaching," Peskov told reporters.
At the same time, he did not specify concrete timelines or parameters for possible agreements.
Zelenskyy stated that Russia does not plan to end the war
The day before, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia shows no real desire to stop the hostilities.
Russia has no intention of ending this war. And we, unfortunately, are preparing for new attacks
As Reuters notes, despite several rounds of negotiations mediated by US President Donald Trump, the parties have yet to reach a peace agreement.
The Kremlin spoke again about a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy
Peskov also stated that Putin is allegedly ready for a personal meeting with Zelenskyy after the "completion of the peace process."
"In order to put an end to this, a great deal of preparatory work needs to be done," he said.
Furthermore, the Kremlin once again stated that the end of the war depends on the "necessary decision" from Kyiv.
The May 9 truce did not stop the fighting
Reuters recalls that the parties agreed to a brief truce on May 9–11, mediated by the US, which was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the USSR's victory in World War II.
Despite the absence of large-scale airstrikes during this period, both Ukraine and Russia reported continued hostilities on the front and mutual shelling with drones and artillery.
