Sweden is asking a Chinese ship to return to investigate damage to underwater cables in the Baltic Sea. The ship Yi Peng 3, which left the Russian port, was in the area where the damage occurred.
Sweden is asking a Chinese ship to return to Swedish waters to help investigate recent breakthroughs in underwater fiber-optic cables in the Baltic Sea. This was stated by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, reports Reuters, reports UNN.
"On the Swedish side, we maintain contact with the ship and contact with China, and said that we want the ship to move in the direction of Swedish waters," Kristersson said.
It is noted that the Chinese ship left the Russian port of Ust-Luga on November 15 and was in areas where the cable was damaged, according to traffic data, which showed that other ships were also in the area.
"We are not bringing any charges, but we are trying to clarify what happened. This is the second time in a relatively short period of time that serious physical cable breaks have occurred," Kristersson added.
The publication notes that Sweden hoped that China would respond positively to the request. China's foreign ministry said on Monday that Beijing maintains "smooth communication" with all parties involved.
