Sokal ceramics added to the list of intangible cultural heritage

The Ministry of Culture included the tradition of creating Sokal ceramics in the National List. This type of pottery has been known since the 15th century and is distinguished by its characteristic colors and ornaments.
Sokal ceramics, a pottery tradition from the Lviv region known since the 15th century and distinguished by its characteristic colors and ornaments, have been added to the National List of Elements of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture, writes UNN.
The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has included the "Tradition of existence and the art of creating Sokal ceramics" in the National List of Elements of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine
Sokal ceramics are a type of ceramics that formed on the territory of Sokal (now a city in the Sheptytskyi district of the Lviv region, the administrative center of the Sokal urban hromada) — one of the leading pottery centers of Ukraine, known since the 15th century.
It stands out among others primarily for its color, decorative motifs, and style unique to this center: broad, lapidary strokes of green, yellow, and brown on a white background, emphasized large main compositional elements depicting birds, branches, lush flowers, sunflowers, large rosettes, and a clock.
The technology of manufacturing ceramic products is based on traditional manual pottery techniques and multi-stage decorative finishing.
