A large-scale water supply failure occurred in central Berlin a few hours before the New Year. The cause is unknown, the water pressure dropped to a critical level, and the upper floors of the buildings were completely left without water.

Several districts of Berlin were left without water a few hours before the New Year. This is reported by BILD, UNN reports.

Details

Large parts of Berlin were left without water supply in the evening of December 31, a few hours before the New Year's Eve celebrations. Residents of the Charlottenburg, Wedding, Kreuzberg and Mitte districts reported no water in their apartments.

The reasons for the water supply interruptions remain unknown. The Berlin water company has not provided an official explanation, and its telephone lines are overloaded. The answering machine informs about the high volume of calls and asks to call back later.

According to an employee of Axel Springer SE's central building management department, the city has seen a significant drop in pressure in the water supply system. Usually, water is supplied at a pressure of 6 bar, but now this figure has dropped to 1.5-1.8 bar. Because of this, water flows in a weak stream on the lower floors of buildings, and there is no water at all on the upper floors.

The Berlin Fire Department reported a water leak in the Gesundbrunnen neighborhood late in the evening. However, it is not yet known whether this incident is related to the general water supply disruption.
