
Prisoners of war in Ukraine will be able to be involved in work - decision

The Cabinet of Ministers has allowed prisoners of war to be involved in work in colonies and pre-trial detention centers. The Coordination Headquarters received the right to approve the transfer of prisoners to the states participating in the Geneva Convention.
The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a decision providing for the possibility of involving prisoners of war held in minimum security colonies with general conditions of detention, medium and maximum security levels, as well as pre-trial detention centers in the performance of work.
This was reported by representative of the government in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk, reports UNN.

According to Melnychuk, the Cabinet of Ministers granted the Coordination Headquarters the right to coordinate issues regarding the transfer of prisoners of war to a state that is a party to the Geneva Convention, provided that such state intends and is able to apply the provisions of this Convention.
Also, prisoners of war are granted the right, personally or through an authorized person, to apply to the Coordination Headquarters with a request (application, complaint) regarding the conditions of their detention in the prisoner of war camp, as well as the possibility of involving prisoners of war held in areas for holding prisoners of war in correctional colonies of minimum security with general conditions of detention, medium and maximum security levels, as well as pre-trial detention centers of the State Criminal Executive Service of Ukraine, etc.
The corresponding changes were made to the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution "On Approval of the Procedure for Keeping Prisoners of War".
Reminder
Ukraine has returned 175 Ukrainian defenders from Russian captivity. Another 22 defenders are returning home thanks to measures outside of exchanges. Among them are soldiers who defended the country, including at "Azovstal".
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it has been possible to return more than 43,060 Ukrainians.
