In the Kigonze camp in the northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, at least 30 people have died since the beginning of May. Some of them tested positive for the Ebola virus, raising concerns about the possible rapid spread of the disease among internally displaced persons, Reuters reports, writes UNN.

According to camp officials and humanitarian organizations, most of the deceased had symptoms characteristic of Ebola, including high fever, headache, and vomiting. However, it was not possible to confirm the causes of all deaths, as many residents refused testing for a long time.

Previously, people did not die just like that

– said camp spokesman Desire Grodya Bapi, noting that usually Kigonze recorded one to three deaths per month.

Doctors fear hidden spread of the virus

The Kigonze camp, home to more than 15,000 people, is located in the city of Bunia, which has become the epicenter of a new Ebola outbreak in Congo. Humanitarian organizations warn that due to poor sanitary conditions and distrust of doctors, the virus could spread unnoticed among millions of displaced people in the eastern part of the country.
