More than 2,000 Russians and Belarusians were recognized as a threat to Lithuania's national security as a result of the questionnaire assessment

In the first year of using the special questionnaire, Lithuania identified 2041 Russian and Belarusian citizens who pose a threat to the country's national security. The questionnaire assesses attitudes toward the war in Ukraine among applicants for residence permits or national visas. Persons recognized as a threat to the national security of the country are banned from entering Lithuania.

During the first year of year of the introduction of a special questionnaire for citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus, which requires to indicate their attitude to the war in Ukraine, the Lithuanian Migration Service made 2041 decisions on identifying threats to state security and decided to to ban the relevant foreigners from entering the country.

Details

The questionnaire is mandatory for citizens of Russia and Belarus whose legal status is being checked by the Lithuanian Migration Service, in particular for issuing or changing temporary or permanent residence permits, etc.
As of now, the following decisions have been made by the Lithuanian Migration Department based on the assessment of the information collected:

1644 Belarusian citizens were recognized as a threat to the national security of Lithuania, including 562 cases of residence permit in Lithuania and 343 times - in to replace a residence permit. Also, the citizens of Belarus had their previously valid residence permits revoked 450 times previously valid temporary residence permits, including eight people who had their documents. There were also 279 refusals of national Lithuanian visas.

According to the Department of Migration, 397 decisions were made regarding Russians who pose threats to national security; 76 Russians were denied permits for temporary residence in Lithuania. temporary residence permits in Lithuania, and 84 were denied their extension. There were also 90 decisions were made on - 1) revocation of temporary residence permits of Russian citizens that were still valid were still valid; 2) revocation of permanent residence permits of Russian citizens in Lithuania. According to the results of the survey, 55 decisions were made to refuse to national visa to Russians, and two decisions to refuse to issue a permanent permanent residence permit

It is alleged that all the above-mentioned foreigners were also banned from entering Lithuania.

As expected, the special questionnaire has become an additional safeguard to help identify foreigners whose stay in our country poses a threat to national security. There have already been cases when people concealed important information when filling out the questionnaire, but it was later revealed

From November 2022, the obligation to fill out the questionnaire applies to all adult citizens of Russia and Belarus when they apply for the issuance or amendment of a document granting or confirming the right to reside in Lithuania, the issuance of a new temporary residence permit or a national visa. Foreigners who fill out the questionnaire must provide information about their education, previous employment, service in the armed forces, business relations, contacts with state institutions in NATO or non-EU countries, and express their views on Russian aggression in Ukraine.
