Friedrich Merz stated that Ukraine cannot become a member of NATO or the EU while the war is ongoing. He also warned against underestimating the resilience of Russia and its policies.

Friedrich Merz, the designated Federal Chancellor of Germany, supports the prospect of Ukraine joining the EU and NATO, but only after the end of the war. He said this in an interview with Handelsblatt, reports UNN.
Details
According to him, Ukraine is a country at war.
And a country that is at war cannot become a member of either NATO or the European Union. This applies to the current moment
At the same time, he emphasized that the promise of Ukraine's membership in the EU, as well as the prospect of joining NATO, remain in force. He also warned against underestimating Russia's resilience.
"The ruthless destruction of people has always been part of Russian politics. In this regard, there is little hope that the war will eventually end by itself - due to the country's fatigue or an uprising against the regime," Merz predicts.
