The mayor of Kyiv called the demolition of the Zelensky estate a cynical provocation. He commented on the protest at KCSA and called for appeals to the parliament and government to protect historic buildings.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reacted to the demolition of the Zelensky estate in Kyiv and the protest of local residents who demanded that the destruction of the historic part of the city be stopped and chanted "Klitschko is a looter" in front of KCSA, UNN reports .

I consider the unauthorized demolition of the Zelensky estate to be a cynical provocation. Especially a few days after the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the KCSA received a package of revised accounting documentation for the assignment of a monument status to the building at 22 Oleksandr Konys'kyi Street. This was done in support of a petition to preserve the old building

The mayor also commented on the rally that people organized in front of the KCSA, demanding to stop the destruction of the historic part of Kyiv and chanting 'Klitschko is a looter'.

Activists come to the city hall. They say, "Klitschko demolished the monument." But why don't the outraged demonstrators go and ask questions of the parliament, which has not passed the bill submitted by the city for more than 5 years so that the capital can have leverage over unscrupulous owners of old buildings? Why don't they address the government, from which the city has been demanding for so many years to return the Sikorsky House, which is on the balance sheet of the Ministry of Defense, to the community

Klitschko said that the Cabinet of Ministers had blocked the transfer of the Gostiny Dvor to the community, which the city, together with activists, had returned from private to state ownership.

The capital has made so many appeals to return the crumbling building to the city, restore it, and create a museum of the famous aircraft designer. The same Cabinet of Ministers blocked the transfer of the Hospodnyi Dvor to the community, which the city, together with activists, returned from private to public ownership. And the monument is also standing without reconstruction and is being destroyed

 - said the mayor.

He also said that in recent years the city has sent dozens of requests to the Ministry of Culture to include more than 1,500 monuments and newly discovered cultural heritage sites in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine.

And the ministry has submitted only about a hundred. Another topic is the response of law enforcement agencies to cases of destruction of old buildings by developers

Context

In Kyiv, the Zelenskys' estate, which is a significant historical building, was illegally demolished. The Ministry of Culture did not grant permission for the dismantling and called on law enforcement to pay attention to the attempted destruction of the historic building.

Police also announced the opening of proceedings in connection with the demolition of the building.  Due to the demolition, hundreds of Kyiv residents rallied outside the KCSA, demanding an end to the destruction of the historic part of Kyiv and chanting 'Klitschko is a looter'.

The Prosecutor General's Office notedthat the demolition of the Zelenskys' estate took place despite her arrest.
