Iran announced its intention to strengthen control over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. A new round of talks with the US on ending the war will take place on Tuesday in Doha.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on state television that Tehran seeks to conclude an agreement with Oman on joint control of shipping in the strait. According to him, if Oman does not agree, Iran will implement its own plan for controlling vessel traffic.
"We warned the Omanis that other countries have no right to interfere in this matter,"
According to him, Iran will also independently determine any temporary transit routes through the strait.
Iran's position could complicate negotiations
As Bloomberg notes, such statements indicate that Tehran has no intention of returning to the regime of free navigation that existed before the US and Israeli military campaign. The interim peace agreement stipulated that for 60 days Iran would not charge fees for the passage of vessels, but after this period expires, such a possibility remains.
A new round of negotiations between the parties is expected to take place on Tuesday in Doha. According to the White House, the meeting is to be attended by US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. At the same time, Gharibabadi stated that the Iranian delegation does not plan to meet directly with the American side.
