Iran and Russia plan to sign a strategic agreement in late January 2025, before Trump's possible inauguration. The document could give Iran access to Russian nuclear technology and new types of weapons.

Russian and Iranian officials announce the signing of a new 20-year strategic partnership agreement on the eve of Donald Trump's inauguration. The document is likely to provide for Tehran's access to Russian nuclear technologies or obtaining  new types of weapons, according to the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, UNN reports.

According to the CPA, both sides are interested in signing a strategic agreement  as soon as possible. For Iran, Donald Trump's coming to power in the United States could mean increased isolation, given the tough stance toward Tehran that the newly elected president took during his previous term.

The content of the agreement is still unknown, but it is emphasized that it should facilitate close defense cooperation. Presumably, the agreement will provide for Iran's access to Russian nuclear technology or Tehran's acquisition of new types of weapons

- The Center for Countering Disinformation believes.

In any case, the signing of this agreement is an attempt to protect the interests of both regimes against the background of future possible changes in US policy, the NSDC's Center for Political Studies emphasized.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai told reporters on Monday that he hopes the two leaders will sign the agreement “in late January,”  Newsweek reports . It notes that the new treaty, which could be concluded a few days before Trump's inauguration on January 20, is an attempt by the two countries to join forces in the face of growing isolation on the world stage.
