On Thursday, in the north of Mali, a convoy carrying Malian soldiers and fighters of the Russian paramilitary formation "African Corps" was attacked. Three sources in the security forces and a spokesman for one of the armed groups told Reuters about this, reports UNN.

According to one of the sources, the column included over 200 Russian fighters and over 100 Malian military personnel. It is also reported that earlier this week, another military column heading north was subjected to a similar attack.

The Al-Qaeda-linked group "Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin" (JNIM) and the Tuareg-led rebel group "Azawad Liberation Front" (FLA) carried out attacks on government forces positions in various areas of Mali.

Neighboring Niger, which is an ally of the current Malian authorities, provided air support to the blocked units during the fighting. Official spokespersons for the Malian army and the military leadership of Niger have not yet responded to journalists' requests for comments.

It is noted that in April, the FLA and JNIM jointly conducted a coordinated and high-profile operation, during which an airport in the capital Bamako was struck and the Minister of Defense was killed.
