Heavy rains flood homes and block roads in several districts of Moldova

Heavy rains in Moldova have flooded hundreds of homes and damaged roads in 10 districts. Rescue services carried out 65 deployments, and water levels are gradually receding.

Heavy rains on June 6 flooded homes, damaged roads, and hampered traffic in 10 districts of Moldova, including Chisinau. Over the past 24 hours, rescuers and firefighters responded to 65 calls to eliminate the consequences of the bad weather. This was reported on June 7 by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, according to UNN with reference to NewsMaker.

The Ialoveni district was the hardest hit. In the villages of Puhoi, Tipala, Gangura, and Carbuna, water flooded houses and yards, damaged roads, and blocked traffic. In Gangura, water destroyed about 8 km of road and affected approximately 100 houses. In Puhoi and Tipala, water flooded yards and houses and blocked several local roads. Rescuers removed seven vehicles from flooded areas, including three minibuses. In the village of Puhoi, local authorities urgently convened the Commission for Emergency Situations.
Problems also arose in the Straseni district. Water flooded houses and farms in six settlements. In Straseni and the village of Vorniceni, rescuers pumped water from streets and yards. In the village of Greblesti, some residents were temporarily left without electricity; power supply was later restored.
In the village of Gribova, Drochia district, water runoff from slopes flooded about 20 houses. Rescuers, together with local authorities, pumped out water and cleaned drainage channels.
In Telenesti, a drainage canal overflowed its banks, flooding a basement and a residential building. Firefighters pumped water from yards, cellars, and areas near apartment buildings. In the village of Leuseni, three houses were affected.
In the village of Bulboci, Soroca district, water flooded a residential building and a cellar. Due to mud on the road, authorities temporarily closed traffic between the villages of Regina Maria and Bulboci.
In the village of Peciste, Rezina district, mudflows blocked the road. In the village of Cliscauti, Singerei district, water flooded several gardens and damaged a section of the road. Traffic on the R6 highway was partially restricted but was restored after clearing.
In Basarabeasca, a fallen tree temporarily blocked traffic on Nikolai Gogol Street.
In Chisinau and Durlesti, after the downpours, water accumulated on several major streets, including Muncesti Highway, Dacia Boulevard, Calea Basarabiei, Mesterul Manole, and Tudor Vladimirescu streets. Traffic is difficult, but the roads were not closed.
At night, rescuers sent additional teams to settlements along the Botna River to monitor the situation. According to the GIES, water levels in the most affected areas are gradually receding.
"No information regarding deaths or injuries as a result of the adverse weather conditions has been received so far," the inspectorate reported.
Authorities continue to assess the damage and eliminate the consequences of the storm.
