On the night of July 2, during a massive shelling of the capital, 52.5 thousand people were at Kyiv Metro stations, including almost 4.5 thousand children. This is the highest rate of sheltering the population in the metro during a night air raid alert in recent years. This was reported by the capital's metro, UNN reports.

Details

The Kyiv Metro municipal enterprise emphasized that during an air raid alert, 46 underground stations operate as shelters. All vestibules without exception are open for entry.

Those planning to stay at the stations overnight were asked to arrive before the metro closes for entry, inform station staff and police of their intention to stay overnight, and go down to the platform.

At the same time, the metro noted that access to stations is on general terms if no air raid alert has been declared in the city.

For a safer and more comfortable stay in the shelter, residents were advised to bring warm clothes, blankets, or sleeping mats, as the average temperature at the stations is 17-18°C, and there may be drafts through the tunnels and underground premises.

They also recommended bringing personal medications, a bottle of water, hygiene products, including wet and dry wipes. Pet owners were warned about the need to have diapers and bags to clean up after their pets.

In addition, the attention of residents and guests was drawn to the fact that at central stations during an air raid alert there are usually fewer people, so if possible, passengers are advised to use them during danger.

People were also urged to be understanding towards metro workers who, during air raid alerts, ensure the operation of stations as shelters and simultaneously perform current tasks to keep the subway safe and convenient for passengers during the day.

Recall

A month ago, on the night of June 2, 2026, during a Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine, the Kyiv metro sheltered a record number of people - 41 thousand residents and guests of the capital.
