After the death of the leader of the Wagner mercenaries last year, the group has significantly decreased and become more fragmented. This was stated by the British Ministry of Defense, UNN reports.
Details
British intelligence emphasizes that after the deaths of Prigozhin and Wagner Group founder Dmitry Utkin, the group has become increasingly fragmented, and many of the survivors are leaving.
A striking example of this is one of its leaders, Andrei Troshev. The man went to serve in the Russian Ministry of Defense, where he probably works for PMC Redut. Currently, this company is engaged in the formation of volunteer corps units to participate in hostilities in Ukraine.
Another well-known Wagnerite is Alexander Kuznetsov, who was the commander of the first Wagner assault unit. He is now a member of the Chechen volunteer special forces unit Akhmat.
And the commander of the third Wagner assault unit, Borys Nizhevenok, headed the Vostok-V volunteer unit in May 2024.
Analysts say that following these and other former Wagner leaders, many veteran Wagnerists have left the group,
Compared to a peak of around 50,000 employees in 2023, Wagner is now likely to employ around 5,000 people in its remaining locations in Belarus and Africa
Recall
In the winter, British intelligence said that a new base for Wagner mercenaries was being built in southern Russia . The new base will also house a new volunteer corps of the Russian Guard.
