BMW recalls 1.36 million vehicles in China due to potential problems with Takata airbags. The recall applies to models made in 2003-2017, including 598 thousand cars produced in China and 759 thousand imported cars.
BMW, together with its Chinese partner, has announced a recall of 1.36 million vehicles manufactured and imported to China due to potential problems with Takata airbags. This was reported by the State Administration of China for Market Regulation, UNN reports.
Details
The defect concerns models manufactured between 2003 and 2017. The recall includes 598,000 vehicles manufactured at BMW's Brilliance Automotive joint venture in China, as well as 759,000 imported vehicles.
It is noted that the problem lies in possible defects in the airbags that were installed on the steering wheel after modification by the owners. According to Reuters, BMW has promised to replace the faulty driver's airbags for free to eliminate potential risks.

In February , it was reportedthat Mercedes-Benz was recalling 250,000 vehicles worldwide starting with the 2023 model year, including the AMG GT, C-Class, CLE, E-Class, EQE, EQS, GLC, S-Class and SL models, to replace certain parts due to potential fuse issues that could cause engine failure and fire.
