Today, a new checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border "Velyka Palad - Nodhodos" was opened, which is intended for automobile and passenger traffic. It will increase the annual capacity of the Ukrainian-Hungarian section of the western border by more than 70,000 passenger cars and 220,000 pedestrians.
Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction - Minister of Community and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba noted that the new checkpoint "Velyka Palad - Nagyhodos" in Zakarpattia Oblast started operating on April 8.
According to him, this is the first new point on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border in the last decades. "The point was launched on temporary infrastructure - this allowed to quickly implement the project. In the future, a full-fledged checkpoint will be built here," Kuleba said.
According to the government official, the new checkpoint is designed for cars up to 3.5 tons. It will operate daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and has two lanes for entry and exit. 200 cars and 600 pedestrians will be able to cross it per day, and 73,000 cars and 220,000 pedestrians per year.
"The new checkpoint means less queues for cars at other crossings, support for local development and strengthening cooperation with European partners," Kuleba said.
According to Shmyhal, the government's goal is to update 29 checkpoints and build 17 new ones by 2030.
"Also, part of the changes on the western border will be the launch of joint customs and border control with neighboring countries, updating the technical base, and further digitalization," the head of government said.
