Zaporizhzhia NPP is constantly very close to the first phase of the Fukushima accident due to damaged power lines and dependence on diesel generators, which poses a serious nuclear risk.

Zaporizhzhya NPP is constantly very close to the first phase of the accident that occurred in Fukushima. This was reported by the head of Energoatom Petro Kotin on Radio NV, according to a correspondent of UNN.

We are constantly very close to an accident like the one that happened in Fukushima, to the first phase of that accident. There was an earthquake in Fukushima, and after that, external power was lost, the connection between the nuclear power plant and the Japanese power grid. The situation is the same here. The occupiers have damaged all the lines, and two lines are still down. Sometimes, due to their nightly shelling of these two lines, another line breaks down and then it cannot be repaired immediately because there is no access to the military combat zone on the territory of Ukraine,

- Kotin said.

According to him, work has been underway for several weeks to allow Ukrainian personnel to restore the line.

Fortunately, there are two lines now. When a plant is on one line, it can also be interrupted, and then, as it has already happened, the plant will switch to diesel generators. When a plant switches to diesel generators, it is at the first stage of the Fukushima accident, when external power lines were damaged by the earthquake,

- Kotin noted.

Addendum

Kotin reported that Zaporizhzhia NPP lacks qualified and licensed personnel, because the Russians hire everyone. This is a very big threat to the equipment. Repairs and routine inspections are not carried out in full at ZNPP.
