Two powerful earthquakes occurred near Taiwan

Two powerful earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.5 and 6.6 occurred near Taiwan, causing the collapse of buildings and destruction in the city of Hualien.
Several earthquakes have struck Taiwan, the first with a magnitude of 7.5 and the second with a magnitude of 6.6, the Japan Meteorological Agency has reported. The island's media publish footage of damaged buildings, UNN reports.

The China Times writes that the magnitude of the earthquakes, according to the Taiwan Meteorological Administration, was 7.2 and 6.5. The tremors were felt most strongly in Hualien on the east coast of the island, which is located near the epicenter, but they were felt throughout Taiwan.
ETtoday posted footage showing damaged buildings. They were taken in Hualien, and the portal says that many buildings have collapsed there. In one of the shots, a ten-story building is tilted over, with the first floor completely destroyed.
Another photo also shows a five-story building tilted over, with the first floor partially destroyed. According to the portal, rescuers are already working at the site of the collapse, and several people have been rescued. No casualties have been reported so far.
ETtoday notes that this earthquake was the strongest in the last 25 years.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the first earthquake (7.4) occurred at 2:58 a.m. Kyiv time, the second (6.5) at 3:11 a.m. Kyiv time, and then three more with magnitudes ranging from 4.4 to 5.7 were recorded.
