John Tinniswood, an Englishman born in the same year when the Titanic sank, who survived two world wars, the Spanish flu pandemic and the coronavirus, died at the age of 112, a few months after the Guinness Book of World Records recognized him as the oldest man in the world.
He was born in August 1912 in Liverpool, married in 1942, at the height of World War II, when he served in the army. Later, Tinniswood, who is survived by a daughter, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, worked as an accountant.
After his 100th birthday, he received a greeting card every year from the late Queen Elizabeth, who was 14 years younger than him.
Tinniswood remained active, followed the news and managed his finances, which may have contributed to his longevity, the Book of Records said in a statement.
He said: "Either you live a long time, or you don't live long, and there's nothing you can do about it.
