Han Dong Hong said it was necessary to remove President Yoon Sok Yule due to an attempt to impose martial law. The ruling party has scheduled an impeachment vote for Saturday.
South Korea's ruling party leader Han Jong-Hoon said on Friday that President Yoon Sok Yule should be removed from power for attempting to impose martial law. The party held meetings on Friday to discuss impeachment and scheduled a vote for Saturday evening. About it UNN reports with reference to Reuters.
Yun Sok Yule shocked the country and his own ruling party on Tuesday, December 3, by imposing martial law in the country and giving the military the power to root out what he called "anti-state forces".
Speaking after the ruling party's meeting in Parliament on Friday, leader Han Dong hoon said Yule had ordered the arrest of prominent politicians on the grounds that they were among "anti-state forces" during martial law.
Later, the presidential office denied that such an order was given, the Yonhap news agency reports.
Fearing a new attempt to declare martial law, opposition lawmakers rotated the parliament's plenary hall to block any such attempt.
Acting Defense Minister Kim Song Ho said that reports of a possible new attempt to impose martial law do not correspond to reality.
Earlier, Khan said that there is a" high risk of a repeat of such extreme actions as the introduction of a state of emergency "while Yul remains in power, which puts the country in"great danger".
On Thursday, the ruling party said it was against impeachment, but Khan suggested that position could change in light of "strong evidence" that Yul intended to arrest and detain political leaders in Kwachon, south of Seoul.
"I believe that the immediate removal of President Yoon Sok Yule from office is necessary to protect the Republic of Korea and its people in the light of the newly revealed facts," Khan said.
He did not directly call for impeachment or respond to reporters when asked for clarification.
Some party members have said they do not want a repeat of the impeachment of then-President Park Geun-hye in 2016, which led to the collapse of the Conservative Party and the Liberals ' victory in the presidential and general elections.
