Putin announced the largest conscription to the Russian army in 14 years – 160,000 conscripts. This conscription may be a way to compensate for losses at the front and indicate Russia's plans to continue the war.

The Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council explained why Putin announced the largest conscription of conscripts

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has announced the largest conscription into the army in the last 14 years. This spring, the Russian Ministry of Defense plans to replenish the military with 160,000 people. This is more than in the previous three years of the full-scale war. This is reported by the Center for Counteracting Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council, writes UNN.

Details

It is noted that in 2022, 134.5 thousand people were sent to service in the spring, 120 thousand in the autumn, in 2023, 147 thousand were drafted into the army in the spring and 130 thousand in the autumn, and in 2024 – 150 thousand and 133 thousand people, respectively.

The CCD of the National Security and Defense Council also notes that although the Russian authorities assure that conscripts are not sent to the combat zone, once in the service, they voluntarily-compulsorily sign contracts and end up at the front. So conscription has become one of the ways for the Kremlin to compensate for heavy losses at the front.

This set of conscripts may also be evidence that Russia, despite official statements about peace, actually wants the war to continue

- the message says.

Let us remind you

As UNN wrote earlier, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the spring conscription of Russians aged 18 to 30 into military service. In the current campaign, it is planned to involve 160,000 Russians in conscription, which is 10,000 more than in the same period last year. The decree came into force on March 31.
