A shooting occurred in the Les Moulins district of Nice, France, on May 11, leaving two people dead and nine others injured. This was reported by BFMTV, according to UNN.

According to the prosecutor's office, the attacker was traveling on a scooter and opened fire in bursts with a 7.62 mm Tokarev short-barreled rifle in Amaryllis Square. Law enforcement officers found 17 shell casings at the scene. After the shooting, the perpetrator left the area on the scooter, then got into a Renault Captur car and fled.
The deceased include men born in 1968 and 1987. Six more people sustained gunshot wounds or injuries from shrapnel, three of whom are in critical condition. According to the Mayor of Nice, Éric Ciotti, three additional people suffered from severe shock.
Investigators link the attack to drug trafficking
The prosecutor's office reported that some of the victims had previously appeared in cases related to illicit drug trafficking. Investigators believe the shooting may be linked to criminal conflicts in the Les Moulins district.
Following the incident, all schools in the district were temporarily locked down, and the area was cordoned off by security forces. Law enforcement has opened an investigation into charges of murder by an organized group and criminal conspiracy.
The Les Moulins district in Nice is considered one of the centers of drug trafficking in southern France. Since the summer of 2024, at least 11 deaths related to criminal showdowns have been recorded there. Police continue to search for the attacker.
