In response to the Pope's statement about a "white flag" for Ukraine, the Kremlin said it was ready for  negotiations, but Kyiv allegedly opposes a diplomatic solution to the situation. This was stated by russian president putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov in a commentary to the russian media, UNN reports .

russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman maria zakharova also responded to the Pope's statement. According to her, Moscow "has never blocked negotiations" and accused the West of "using" Ukraine to weaken russia. She added that the situation in Ukraine "has reached a deadlock.
