Details
The Spanish prosecutor's office is asking to withdraw the complaint against Begona Gomez, the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. Today, an appeal was filed against the conviction of corruption charges against Sanchez's wife. According to media reports, the opinion of the prosecutor's office carries weight, but only the judge decides whether to launch an official investigation.
Context
The judicial investigation into Pedro Sánchez's wife, Begonia Gómez, is the result of a complaint about alleged influence peddling filed by the Mãos Limpas association, which is affiliated with the Spanish far right.
The association said today that the complaint, which it filed earlier this month, is based on digital media content and commentary on television programs.
While acknowledging that the allegations may not be true, the association stated that the responsibility lies with the media outlets that published them and that, in any case, a judicial investigation should be used to determine their veracity.

The day before, Sanchez complained about political mudslinging and announced that he was considering resigning from the post he had held since mid-2018.
In particular, the 52-year-old socialist politician complained that he was being persecuted by the right and the far right, using all possible means.
