In the Azov Sea, crabs and fish are dying en masse due to the actions of the Russian Federation - CCD of the National Security and Defense Council
Kyiv • UNN
Mass death of fish has been recorded in the Mariupol area, and crabs near Kerch. The CCD of the National Security and Defense Council considers this an ecocide by the Russian Federation, which ignores the environmental crisis in the Sea of Azov.

A mass death of fish has been recorded in the Sea of Azov in the area of occupied Mariupol, Donetsk region. A similar phenomenon, but with crabs, is recorded in the area of Kerch, occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea. This is likely part of a deliberate ecocide policy by Russia. This is reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council, writes UNN.
In occupied Mariupol, a massive fish kill is being recorded, and near Kerch, hundreds of dead crabs have been washed ashore. This may be the result of a spill of fuel oil from Russian tankers in the Kerch Strait.
The Center emphasizes that the destruction of the nature of the Sea of Azov is a continuation of the systemic policy of ecocide that the Russian Federation is carrying out in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine during the full-scale war.
The Sea of Azov, which is completely under the control of Russia, is experiencing an ecological crisis. But the occupation authorities are not taking any environmental measures, and simply ignore the problems. At the same time, propaganda is trying to create a "victory" around phenomena that should cause concern.
In particular, Russian propagandists boast of "record catches" of shrimp in the Sea of Azov. The CPD explains: the increase in the shrimp population is a consequence of the increase in water salinity - a sign of the degradation of the marine ecosystem, which in the long term threatens the disappearance of the unique natural balance of the Sea of Azov.
