The operation to eliminate the protesters' tent city, which appeared in the center of Tbilisi near the Tbilisi State University, took place after the protesters failed to comply with the ultimatum of the security forces.
The tent city was located at the beginning of Chavchavadze Avenue, not far from the city center, and emerged after the official results of the parliamentary elections were announced. In response to the protest, the police brought water cannons and demanded that the participants remove their tents within 15 minutes. After this period expired, security forces began dismantling the tent city.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia stated that the dispersal of the rally was necessary due to the violation of the rights of citizens to free travel, as the protesters blocked part of Chavchavadze Avenue.
The protests began after the official results of the elections, according to which the ruling Georgian Dream party won an absolute majority of seats in parliament. The opposition, however, does not recognize these results, accusing the government of fraud and anti-democratic policies.
