According to the agency's interlocutor, Witkoff and Kushner were in Doha as part of indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran aimed at reaching a long-term peace agreement after the recent escalation.

At the same time, the Qatari side emphasized that U.S. representatives did not hold direct meetings with their Iranian counterparts. The negotiation process continues through intermediaries, and technical consultations at a lower level, according to the U.S. official, show progress.

The parties still have to resolve key contradictions

Bloomberg notes that among the main unresolved issues remain the unblocking of billions of dollars in Iranian assets, as well as the future shipping regime through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran insists on the right to control vessel traffic in the strait and allows for the possibility of introducing transit fees after the end of the 60-day period provided for by the interim agreement. The U.S., European countries, and most Arab states of the Persian Gulf oppose such an initiative.

According to Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, reported that President Donald Trump decided not to resume a large-scale military campaign and does not object if negotiations continue after August 18.
