In 2024, the Ukrainian Air Force destroyed more than 1,300 missiles, 14,400 drones, 40 airplanes and 6 helicopters. Despite the increase in attacks with missiles and UAVs, the Ukrainian Air Force flew more than 20,000 sorties, almost 9,000 of which were with Western weapons, UNN reports.
"In 2024, the enemy used significantly more missiles and attack UAVs against Ukraine's critical infrastructure than last year," the Armed Forces of Ukraine wrote.
The Air Force notes that the enemy has begun using a large number of drones imitating real "chessmen" to complicate the air situation, overload the air defense system and exhaust Ukrainian air defenders. In addition, enemy aircraft have launched tens of thousands of guided bombs at the frontline areas, destroying Ukrainian towns and villages near the front line.
Also during this year, the enemy increased both the production and use of ballistic missiles in Ukraine, including North Korea's KN-23.
"Despite the enemy's daily attacks, the Air Force, along with the entire Defense Forces, continues to hold the sky over Ukraine. In 2024, air defense destroyed more than 1300 missiles of various types, 11200 attack drones, 3200 reconnaissance UAVs of operational and tactical level. This year, Ukraine's air defense has shot down 40 enemy airplanes and 6 helicopters," they added.
