Iran ready for direct nuclear talks with US in exchange for "goodwill gesture" - Reuters

Iran suggests the possibility of direct negotiations with the United States in exchange for a "gesture of goodwill" in the form of easing sanctions or unfreezing part of its assets, Reuters reports, citing an unnamed Middle Eastern diplomat, writes UNN.

Details

According to the diplomat, Iran would like to see concrete gestures from the United States before any face-to-face negotiations between Iranian and American officials.

The talks were announced on Monday by US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly threatened Iran with military action if it does not agree to a deal since he returned to the White House in January.

Trump said the talks in Oman on Saturday would be direct, but Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi reiterated Tehran's position on Tuesday that they should be indirect, citing what he called US pressure and threats.

The Iranians told us that direct negotiations are possible, but there must be a gesture of goodwill. Remove some sanctions or unfreeze some of the money

- said the regional diplomat.

Let us remind you

On April 7, US President Donald Trump announced direct talks with Tehran on the nuclear program. He noted that the situation around Iran is moving into "very dangerous territory."

In turn, the Iranian media denied Trump's words about the planned negotiations between the US and Iran, calling it information pressure. Tehran is ready for dialogue only through intermediaries.
