The potentially mined area today is about 139 thousand square kilometers. This encourages us to take an integrated approach to humanitarian demining. We are implementing it now in accordance with the National Mine Action Strategy. - said the prime minister.
At the same time, according to the head of the government of Ukraine, almost 35.5 thousand square kilometers of Ukrainian land have already been returned to operation - thanks to the solidarity of partners and internal resources.
Shmygal spoke about the directions of action within the framework of The National Mine Action Strategy:
- The first direction is the survey of potentially polluted land. That is, a survey to determine which territories are located outside the risk zone and quickly return them to farmers for processing.
- the second direction is to clear the land of Mines and shells in areas where contamination was detected.
We are also talking about attracting international donor assistance:
About 50 partner countries have joined the humanitarian demining coalition. The total amount of contributions amounted to more than 1 1 billion.
It is important that the head of government also promised to increase the number of mine clearance equipment. Moreover, equipment manufactured in Ukraine is already working, the prime minister said in a note.
There are also plans to increase the number of certified Mine Action operators.
