The new German government plans to renew military service on a voluntary basis. The issue of compulsory conscription remains open for the time being, but a registration system will be introduced.

In Germany, the new coalition government plans to introduce an updated, initially voluntary, model of military service. The issue of introducing compulsory service remains open. This is reported by UNN with reference to DPA.
We are creating a new, attractive form of military service, which will initially be based on voluntary service. The criteria of attractiveness, significance and contribution to growth potential are the basis of the new design of this service
The coalition agreement reached by senior representatives of the conservative CDU/CSU alliance and the center-left Social Democrats (SPD) stipulates that a registration system will be introduced later this year.
Encouragement through voluntary service, combined with opportunities for further training, will constantly increase the willingness to perform military service. We base our approach on the Swedish model of military service
The CDU/CSU and SPD differed on whether to abandon the current voluntary model. The Christian Democrats advocated for this.
Addition
Germany suspended compulsory military service for men in 2011, although the provision remains in the country's constitution. At the same time, the German government also stopped registration and closed 52 district military departments that managed the conscription system.
But the German armed forces are now facing an acute shortage of personnel, even amid growing threats from states such as Russia. The German Parliament's Commissioner for the Armed Forces, Eva Högl, warned that those serving have already begun to age.
It is also worth noting that the military was eagerly awaiting the decision of the next German government on the restoration of compulsory military service.
Lieutenant General Harald Gante of the German Army recently stated that the country's armed forces, known collectively as the Bundeswehr, cannot rely solely on volunteers to fulfill their list of tasks. He called for conscription for fixed-term service.
Let us remind you
According to the terms of the coalition agreement reached in Germany, the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) will for the first time in almost 60 years will receive control over the country's foreign policy department, which is expected to be headed by Johann Wadeful. And the German Ministry of Defense is expected to remain with Boris Pistorius of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).
