Germany is facing severe flooding, which has led to the evacuation of animals from zoos and emergency measures to strengthen dams.
Flooding continues in Germany, which was triggered by prolonged downpours on Christmas Eve. In some regions, the water came so close to zoos that they decided to evacuate the animals. This was reported by BILD, according to UNN.

In particular, in western Germany, the Nirs River burst its banks, and the Wietz zoo was submerged. Employees voluntarily came back to work after Christmas vacation to save the animals.
They protect the enclosures with sandbags. Sheep, ponies and a donkey were evacuated. Deer, rabbits and chickens were also affected by the water.

The situation is similar in the east of the country. There , for the first time in 50 years, the Aller River flooded the Serengeti Park near the city of Hodenhagen. The park is home to African animals, including lions, rhinos, tigers, and elephants.
About 200 park employees also returned to work after the holidays and covered the enclosures with 15,000 sandbags. None of the 1,500 animals has been harmed so far.

In the north, the Witze River burst its banks near Hanover. Rescue workers pulled a herd of steppe sheep out of the water. About ten animals were transported by boat to a dry place on a hill.
