The decision allows for the resumption of imports of Syrian oil, gold, diamonds, and other precious metals into EU countries.
The cooperation agreement between the European Union and Syria was frozen in 2011 following the start of the civil war that erupted amid protests against Bashar al-Assad's regime.
EU continues gradual lifting of restrictions
The European Union lifted most sanctions against Syria last year after the new Syrian leadership began cooperating with the international community following the revolution.
Now, EU foreign ministers have also agreed to lift sanctions against Syria's ministries of interior and defense.
Reuters notes that the decision is another step toward the gradual restoration of political and economic relations between the European Union and Syria after years of the country's isolation.
