New York's highest court overturns Harvey Weinstein's 23-year prison sentence for rape due to a mistrial, leading to a new trial.

Details
The court that heard Harvey Weinstein's appeal ruled that the high-profile trial in 2020 was conducted with blatant violations. In particular, according to the high court, the decision to allow women to testify on charges that were not part of the case was unacceptable.
We conclude that the trial court erred in admitting evidence of previously unreported sexual acts against persons who were not complainants of the crimes. The correction of these glaring errors will be a new trial
Context
In February 2020, Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison on two counts of rape in 2013 and forcing oral sex in 2006. In February 2023, the former film producer was sentenced to another 16 years in prison for the 2013 rape of an actress from Los Angeles, whose name has not been disclosed. Therefore, Harvey Weinstein remains in prison, despite the revision of the first verdict.
