The US is withdrawing a military contingent from the Polish city of Jasionka: will this affect aid to Ukraine
Kyiv • UNN
The US is moving military equipment and personnel from Jasionka in Poland, but aid to Ukraine will continue. The decision was made to optimize operations and support partners.

The U.S. Army Command in Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF) has announced the planned relocation of U.S. military equipment and personnel from Jasionka, Poland, to other deployment facilities in the country, UNN reports, citing the USAREUR-AF website.
This transition is part of a broader strategy to optimize U.S. military operations, aimed at improving the level of support for Alliance members and partners, as well as increasing efficiency
It is noted that the decision to redeploy troops and equipment is the result of months of evaluation and planning. These measures were closely coordinated with the Polish side and members of the Alliance. The U.S. military assured that military assistance to Ukraine, which was carried out through Jasionka, will continue, but the format will be changed.
The important work of providing military assistance to Ukraine through Jasionka will continue under the leadership of Poland and NATO with the support of an optimized U.S. military presence. Poland and its allies will maintain a reliable defense infrastructure around this critical facility
U.S. troops remain in Poland
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the U.S. Army, despite the redeployment from Jasionka, will not leave Polish territory.
U.S. troops remain in Poland! According to the decision taken at the NATO Summit in Washington, the nature of the mission in Jasionka is changing. Previous tasks of U.S. troops in Jasionka are transferred to the next allies. U.S. troops remain in Poland, but in other locations
He noted that the mission in Jasionka currently involves mainly Norwegian, German, British and Polish troops, as well as other allies.
NATO, as part of the NSATU mission, is taking over responsibility for Operation Jasionka, which we have been reporting since July 2024
Recall
In 2022, U.S. forces established a temporary presence in Jasionka following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This facility is not a permanent Polish military base, but has been used by U.S., NATO and partner forces for three years.
The U.S. Army has created a garrison in Poland and more reliable facilities based on agreements with the host country and significant investments in these facilities by the Polish and U.S. governments.
Poland is a wonderful host. Over the past few years, we have moved to more permanent facilities in this country. After three years in Jasiniavka, this is an opportunity to properly size our presence and save U.S. taxpayers tens of millions of dollars a year
Donahue added that the U.S. has maintained and continues to maintain open lines of communication with Polish counterparts and other NATO members and partners throughout this process.
We are deeply grateful to the city and residents of Jasionka for their warm welcome to U.S. personnel and high-ranking guests over the past three years. Your support has exemplified the close ties between our countries and strengthened the strength of the U.S.-Polish partnership. As we adapt to changing needs, this transition allows us to maintain our close cooperation while using resources more efficiently

The Pentagon is considering a proposal to reduce up to 10,000 troops from Eastern Europe, raising concerns among U.S. European allies. There is a risk that such actions will embolden Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
