French troops have completed their withdrawal from Niger, ending more than a decade of anti-Islamist operations in the Sahel region. After the coup, Niger's new military regime demanded their withdrawal and expelled the French ambassador.

After the July 26 coup d'état, the military in power quickly demanded the withdrawal of French soldiers - about 1,500 people - and at the same time denounced several military agreements concluded with Paris.
